Japanese Inspired Chicken Skewers

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup soy sauce

  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil

  • 21/2 tablespoons honey

  • 21/2 teaspoons Gourmet Garden Ginger
    Add to Shopping List
  • 2 teaspoons Gourmet Garden Garlic
    Add to Shopping List
  • 11/2 teaspoons black sesame seeds
    Add to Shopping List
  • 2 teaspoons golden sesame seeds

  • 16 chicken tenderloins, or strips of chicken breast (about 500g)

  • 16 skewers, soaked in water

  • 1 cup mayonnaise

  • 11/2-2 teaspoons wasabi paste or powder

  • Lemon wedges, to serve

Procedure SERVES 4

Step 1
Combine soy sauce, sesame oil, honey and Gourmet Garden ginger and garlic pastes in a bowl and add sesame seeds. Add the chicken and stir to coat evenly.

Step 2
Thread chicken onto skewers and drizzle lightly with oil.

Step 3
Heat a heavy pan over high heat. Cook the skewers for 3-4 minutes on each side, until cooked, basting with remaining marinade as they cook.

Step 4
To make a sauce to serve on the side, combine mayonnaise and wasabi. Serve 4 chicken skewers onto each plate with a lemon wedge and wasabi mayonnaise on the side.
